Another anecdote demonstrating Governor Romney's character came from his eldest son, Tagg, who came to speak during the Maine Caucus. He said that as a teen, out for a long afternoon of fishing on the lake, he realized he had lost his anchor. So he rowed back to shore with his fish. Inside, his father asked how he did, and Tagg said that he caught a few, but that he lost the anchor. Mitt immediately said there's no need to buy another when he could go back out and find it. Tagg said he said something like, "Yeah, right," or some other teenage-appropriate reaction. But instead of rebuking his insolence, Mitt said, "Come on. I'll show you;" and changed into his trunks and led him back to the lake where he showed Tagg how to conduct a grid search to ultimately find the anchor. Tagg said he learned two things about his dad that day. #1) His father is cheapest man he's ever met. #2) He will always lead by example to help someone get the job done. He said he learned a third lesson many years later when he had children of his own, which was that his father cherished him enough to impart those values. If only others saw him in that light. Alas, it was not to be. The world has changed and left no inconsiderable number of us behind.
